Even Laundry Goes Odd Even!

Friday, May 27, 2016

There has been such a hype regarding the Odd-Even in Delhi - firstly the Phase I in January and then Phase II in April. The campaigns were conducted to reduce the air pollution - its effectiveness is still debatable, however it definitely reduced the traffic congestion for sure! It used to take me more than an hour to commute from home to work and then an hour back! However, during Odd Even Phases, we used to reach in around 40 minutes!

When the news of second phase of Odd Even in April came out, it got us thinking that we should start implementing this in our daily activities as well! Well, I travel daily with my Dad for going to work and he recommended that we start switching the duty of driving and I recommended that we should start doing laundry as per the Odd Even Calendar!

When my mom heard about our new "arrangement", she was pretty amused and thought that this would phase out in just a few days! However, it didn't! In fact, in just a few days, we really started enjoying our Odd-Even arrangement. The days, when I did the laundry, my Dad drove us, and when he did laundry, I drove! It was a pretty awesome - I loved the days when I could just sleep in the passenger's seat after completing the laundry! :P I still think driving was way too energy draining than the laundry! :D

But, I didn't wanna be unfair. I knew everything about driving but my Dad didn't know how to get rid of tough stains using machine wash. So, I got Ariel Matic which works easily on tough stains as well and all he had to do was just ad Ariel Matic on our top load machine and tada! It ensures that the stains are removed so easily and nobody can tell the difference! :D

We loved the arrangement so much that even after Delhi's odd-even phased out, our new Odd Even Laundry calendar didn't! We are still continuing to split our jobs - both Dad and I love sharing the load! :D See our pictures if you don't believe me! :P

They are instantly attracted to each other, though completely opposite in nature. However, something is holding Aalok back. Will this thing throw a spanner in his love story? Or will he be able to overcome his demons?

My Review:
The synopsis of the book seems really interesting, which makes you pick up the book instantly. It's a story about Aalok Sharma, who meets Priyanka Mehra on a flight and falls for her! However, the character of Priyanka has been shown to be too outward in nature. With just one meeting in flight, she ends up spending the night at his place and making movie plans for next day. Her behaviour was too demanding even for a girlfriend and she had just met this guy! I couldn't resonate with her character at all! Well, anyway, they fall in love and to me, it seems like a run-of-the-mill love story.

However, there's a twist! The guy cannot take this relationship further! Boom! But why, you may ask! Well, to answer your query, he goes back in flashback to tell you the initial part of story! And that is he has a wife, Tanya - ex, I believe. They were very much in love, however, due to her alcoholism, he couldn't tolerate her anymore. Yet, he still loves her alot and thus, now he is confused whether to move on in life with the new girl Priyanka or go back to his wife Tanvi!

The story seems simple and may resonate well with youth. The pace of the story is adequate and does not let you lose interest. I finished the book in just one day, during my long and frequent metro rides! The characters are portrayed nicely, specially the female characters have been shown to be strong willed. However, the conversations between the characters were a drag and could have been edited out as I just skipped some and didn't lose any story! Interesting aspect of the story is that characters move on in their lives and not stick with the happenings! Although, you will have to read the book to know whom did Aalok choose? I can't spoil it for you.

It's a simple book with a simple love story, a one time read for me!

My Rating: 2.5 out of 5.
Who will like it: Romance lovers
